The classic puto is made with rice flour but this easy puto version is one you can make at home: you can use all-purpose flour and topped with cheddar cheese or salted egg.

Puto are Filipino steamed rice cakes, traditionally made from  fermented rice dough. It is eaten as is or as an accompaniment to a number of savoury dishes like dinuguan (pork blood stew) or pancit. Best Ube Pandesal Recipe with Cheese and Ube Jam Filling

What I’m sharing here is my version of the hot pandesal we ate for breakfast as kids and that my mum used to make but this time I made more interesting with cheese and ube jam.

Pandesal is a common bread roll in the Philippines. It is made of flour, eggs, yeast, sugar and salt but purple Pandesal has been trending so I used my  Pandesal recipe and just added Ube extract, ube jam and of course cheddar cheese in the middle is perfect for this delicious bread.
These bright purple yam bread rolls, known as ube pandesal in the Philippines, are easy to make.
